Earth Science Module
In this minicourse we discuss the unique capabilities of the Earth Science Module and we try to convey a flavor of the scope of problems it is designed to simulate. The first model concerns fluid flow and transient solute transport through a vertical cross section in an unconfined aquifer. In the second model water will be flowing out of a well, which will result in deformation of the domain. The exercises include:
- Multiphysics coupling between fluid flow and solute transport.
- ALE moving mesh application to calculate the initial water-table location.
- Moving upper boundary, the water table, with time-dependent solute source.
- Incorporation of subsurface geological heterogeneity.
- Arbitrary expressions to set up the model and post-process the results.
- Multiphysics coupling between fluids and deformation in porous media.
- The additional source terms you must add to both the Darcy and structural equations.
- How to account for the fluid pressure from the Darcy equation in the surface traction boundary condition in the structural equation.
