Flow Between Parallel Plates
The problem might seem of academical nature but it is actually fairly common in catalytic reactors, heat exchangers, micro reactors etc.
Symmetry along the thickness of the domain helps to reduce the three-dimensional problem to two dimensions. In this reduction, the variations of the flow in the direction perpendicular to the figure are neglected.

The figure shows the development of the velocity field and viscous layer as the fluid encounters the solid walls at the lateral boundaries. |
