Radiation in participating media has to be accounted for in various applications, like glass at high temperatures, in-depth absorption of lasers, and gas in combustion chambers. Different modeling approaches for radiation in semitransparent media are available in the Heat Transfer Module, an add-on product to COMSOL Multiphysics®, and include the Rosseland approximation, P1 approximation, discrete ordinates method, and Beer–Lambert law.

During this webinar, we will present and compare these approaches in terms of application cases, accuracy, and numerical cost. You will also get a live demonstration of the model setup using COMSOL Multiphysics®, including how to:

  • Select physics interfaces for radiation in participating media
  • Couple radiation and heat transfer interfaces

Nicolas Huc joined COMSOL France in 2004 and is currently the head of their development team. He is also the manager of the Heat Transfer Module. Nicolas studied engineering at ENSIMAG before receiving his PhD in living system modeling from Joseph Fourier University.
